Eggleston Motorsport champions for second straight year at Sydney finale

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Queenslander Liam McAdam has been crowned Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Car Series champion after a dominant performance in this weekend’s final round at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The Eggleston Motorsport driver took a clean sweep of the final round, claiming all three race victories to win his second round of 2015 and give the Melbourne-based team its second consecutive Kumho Series crown.

McAdam sealed the title in Race 2 despite plenty of pressure from 15-year-old star Alex Rullo and was able to go into the final race without the pressure of the title being up for grabs.

“It’s pretty great, a good feeling,” said McAdam after claiming the title.

“I knew we had a bit of a lead before there was a Safety Car in Race 2. It got a bit rough before the end but we did a good job to stay out in front. There were a few wet patches on the track. I took it conservatively and didn’t want to make any mistakes.”

Western Australian Rullo took pole position yesterday – his second of the season – and finished third in yesterday’s wet opening race. He finished second in both of today’s races in dry conditions to seal second for the round overall.

The 15-year-old from Perth finished his debut V8 Touring Car season as series runner-up driving an ex-Prodrive Falcon for MW Motorsport.

Third overall for the weekend was Victorian Matthew Palmer, his weekend highlighted by a third-place behind McAdam and Rullo in Race 3 in his ex-Brad Jones Racing Falcon.

Sydney driver Jim Pollicina secured the 2015 Privateer’s championship, awarded to the highest-finishing driver with a privately prepared and run car in the series.

The 2012 Kumho Series runner-up was fourth overall for the round ahead of Poco Racing’s Steve Briffa, who sealed second in the Privateer’s series for the season.

However, Briffa was able to secure third place outright in the series behind teenagers McAdam and Rullo given there are separate pointscores for Outright, Professional and Privateer categories in each race.

Action from the Sydney Motorsport Park round of the Kumho Series will air on SBS ‘Speedweek’ on Sunday December 6.

The 2016 Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Car Series calendar will be confirmed and announced within the next few weeks.
