MORCOM JOINS EGGLESTON MOTORSPORT IN 2017
SUPERCARS Dunlop Series front-runners Eggleston Motorsport today confirmed reigning CAMS Australian Endurance Champion Nathan Morcom as the first driver announced for its 2017 season multi car line-up.
The 24-year-old will drive one of the team’s recently acquired New Generation Commodore VFs this season, which was delivered from Triple Eight Race Engineering this week.
Morcom is fresh from a brilliant 2016 season where he not only won the CAMS Australian Endurance Championship and finished third in the Australian GT Championship but he also became World Time Attack Champion in the open class and won the Bathurst 6 Hour production car race alongside Chaz Mostert.
The Sydneysider has built himself an impressive resume in recent years, particularly via experience acquired overseas in GT cars. He was a multiple state title and national champion in karting, became a CAMS Rising Star in 2009 and has multiple class and outright wins in the Australian Production Car Championship.
Morcom will become a second generation Supercars driver when he lines up in Adelaide; his father Barry raced a Commodore in the inaugural Clipsal 500 in 1999 during a stint racing in the category in 1998/1999.
“Making the step into the Supercars Dunlop Series is a big one and I’m under no illusion that it’s going to be easy at all,” says Morcom.
“But when you move into a category like this you need to do it with the best team possible and I think that’s what we’ve done by linking with Eggleston Motorsport. Their equipment and preparation is first class and having Triple Eight-sourced hardware at the core of that gives us the best opportunity.
“I’m really looking forward to getting some time in the car and hitting the track in Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 to start my season.”
Eggleston Motorsport Team Manager Rachael Eggleston says the addition of Morcom to the squad’s driver roster for the Supercars Dunlop Series is a great fit.
“We are very excited to have the current Australian GT Endurance and World Time Attack Champion join the team in 2017,” says Eggleston.
“Having competed against Nathan last year in the GT Championship we saw first hand his talent behind the wheel. After some solid test days in what we believe is the best machinery in the field we have no doubt he will be towards the pointy end in no time.
“Nathan has a huge array of experience under his belt in production cars, GT cars overseas and Australia, open wheelers, Time Attack and much more. We’re really looking forward to working with him and look forward to what we’re able to achieve as a team this season.”
Eggleston Motorsport is one of the leading teams in the Supercars Dunlop Series. It won the 2014 Supercars Dunlop Series with driver Paul Dumbrell and has a total of nine DVS round wins, 19 race wins and five pole positions in its time in the category.
The 2017 Supercars Dunlop Series begins at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 2-5 and will then visit Symmons Plains, Phillip Island, Townsville, Sydney Motorsport Park, Sandown and Newcastle in addition to a non-points paying race at Bathurst in October.
